Enriching Life through Arts & Culture
There is no denying that arts and culture are an integral part of our community on Cape Cod. Data shows that there are more solo artists and arts and culture establishments per capita on Cape Cod than any other county in Massachusetts.
Cape Cod has been a refuge for artists for centuries. Provincetown was the United States first artist colony and supports the most art galleries on the Cape. Provincetown isn’t the only place to enjoy the arts; drive along Route 6A to find a multitude of art galleries and exhibitions or take in a show at one our many community theaters.
Cape Cod has approximately 260 arts & culture organizations, representing about 12% of all nonprofits in our region. Many of them, including historical societies and libraries, are engaged in year-round programming. It is estimated that there are nearly 3,000 art and culture related events annually. Many of the organizations are extremely small with operating budgets below $250,000, yet the economic impact of the sector is extensive.
