Purpose:
Safety+Success will focus on improving one of the key outcomes of the Santa Fe Birth to Career Collaboration (SF B2C) - “children are healthy, safe and nurtured.” Without the opportunity for our children to grow up in safe and healthy homes, schools and community environments, success in school and career is greatly diminished. Safety+Success will address the safety and health of infants, children, youth and young adults in Santa Fe County with communications, training and advocacy using in-depth research and publication of data and evidence-based strategies. Based on the research of the Adverse Childhood Experience Study*, we seek to significantly reduce abuse, violence and substance abuse-related challenges facing children.
Outcomes:
The Safety+Success Committee has identifed the following Outcomes using the Results-Based Accountability (RBA) framework.
- Children and youth are safe and supported in a resilient environment
Indicators:
The Safety+Success Committee has identifed the following Indicators using the Results-Based Accountability (RBA) framework.
Primary Indicators
- # or % of children 0-4 meeting social, emotional, cognitive, language & physical developmental milestones
- % of students reporting sufficient levels of caring adult relationships and support
Secondary Indicators
- % of children with childhood trauma
- % of substantiated child abuse and neglect cases
- % of youth using illicit drugs or alcohol last 30 days
- % of youth reporting persistent sadness or hopelessness
- % of middle and high school students who have seriously thought of killing themselves
- % of high school students who report being hit by a dating partner
Description:
Safety+Success Santa Fe will contribute to turning the curve on the above outcomes and indicators for children, youth and youth adults by committing to the following strategies and actions:
- Increase community awareness, through social marketing, education, and networking, of the incidence and impact of child abuse and neglect, domestic violence, substance abuse and untreated mental health challenges.
- Increase technical expertise of stakeholders. Provide to community members a S+S Institute where participants learn about violence and injury data, root causes of safety challenges, and evidence-based solutions.
- Increase engagement of stakeholders in community conversations using a data-informed process to identify and implement solutions to increase child safety, health and resiliency.
- Secure sustainability of Safety+Success: Santa Fe to support B2C goals, and nurture evidence-based safety and health strategies over the next five years.
